Calling all wildlife photographers! We've got the trip for you!

With a population estimated at 30,000, or about half of the total population, Alaska boasts more bald eagles than any other location on the continent. The Bald Eagle is only found in North America, and for the most part, they call home forests that are near rivers, lakes, reservoirs, marshes and coasts. Bald Eagles are often found along Alaska’s coast and offshore islands where the highest nesting densities occur in southern portion of the state.

Join Backcountry Journeys this fall for a unique photography workshop focused entirely on photographing Bald Eagles in their native environment. This departure will take you along the Chilkat River outside of Haines, Alaska where thousands of bald eagles congregate along the river to feed on spawning chum salmon before the coming winter freezes the river over. This tour will put you directly in front of more Bald Eagles than you’ve ever seen and you will walk away with thousands of beautiful images of Eagles up close and tack sharp.

This new itinerary will be based at the Chilkat Eagle Preserve where we'll get the chance to photograph these majestic birds in flight, picking up salmon, hanging out on a branch, etc. Here it is not uncommon to see hundreds of thousands of of Eagles lining the river or even hanging out on a branch with five other birds - it's quite the sight!
