The Everglades is home to an oasis of birds and wildlife. It protects 70 endangered or threatened species, including the American alligator, the manatee, the Florida panther, and many species of birds. The greater Everglades area is home to over 360 bird species, with standouts such as the roseate spoonbill, the glossy ibis, the wood stork, and a variety of egrets and herons.
Winter is an ideal time to visit the Everglades. Temperatures are mild, it’s dry, and mosquitoes are almost entirely absent. Large numbers of resident and transient birds can be found in the swamplands and other wildlife, such as alligators, coyotes, bobcats, and otters are active as well.
Over millions of years, uplift, erosion, ancient inland seas, rivers, and wind have shaped this region into a landscape unlike anywhere else in the world. Throughout the journey, we travel through dramatic desert basins, colorful bentonite badlands, rugged mesas, slickrock formations, and labyrinths of deep canyons carved by the Colorado River system.
As with all Backcountry Journeys workshops, this experience is designed specifically for photographers. We focus our schedule around the best available light, maximizing opportunities during sunrise, sunset, and blue hour while allowing for midday breaks, travel through scenic regions, image review, and instruction. Our small group size ensures personalized guidance in the field and a relaxed, flexible experience throughout the journey.
Nestled in the heart of Wyoming, Grand Teton National Park is one of the most breathtaking landscapes in America. But it's not just the iconic mountain peaks that make this place special – it's the magnificent wildlife that call this park home as well.
During our Bull Moose Workshop, we'll focus on capturing the beauty and majesty of the park's moose population. In early winter, the moose rut is coming to an end, but the bulls retain their impressive antlers, making this an incredible time to see them congregating in sage fields, offering up unique and awe-inspiring photo opportunities. Imagine capturing these magnificent creatures in all their glory, framed by the dramatic backdrop of the Teton Range.
